The Revd Nigel Traynor has been the Vicar of St Mary’s Pype Hayes for 13 years and Area Dean since 2012. His time is spent between an MX5, their Springer Spaniel, music (Nigel’s a drummer), modern art and Aston Villa. The full set of Traynor’s consists of: Erin his wife, and two children, Daniel and Ruth.

Central Birmingham

The Revd Ian Harper has been Area Dean for Central Birmingham since June 2012. He moved to Birmingham from Hackney in the autumn of 2010 to become Vicar of St John and St Peter’s Ladywood. Ian is a passionate advocate for inner city ministry and also serves the Deanery on Diocesan Synod.

The Revd Stuart Carter is married to Wendy and they have three grown up children. Prior to his ordination 22 years ago, he and Wendy both worked with young people and schools on behalf of the Birmingham City Mission. As well as being area dean Stuart is Vicar of St Clements Castle Bromwich.

Handsworth

Father Philip Calvert grew up in a mining village near Barnsley in what was then the West Riding of Yorkshire. He is married to Tracey, who manages the Bandywood Families Project, which is based at St Mark's, and they have two daughters, Amy and Sophie ( and 3 cats).

He worked in the tyre industry before training for the priesthood at Saint Stephen's House, Oxford and served as curate at Saint Luke's, Hobrooks in Coventry before coming to Birmingham where he is now parish priest of Saint Mark's, Kingstanding where he has served since 2006.

Father Philip keeps chickens, bakes bread, enjoys reading contemporary fiction and is a keen Formula 1 fan.

Kings Norton

The Revd Canon Rob Fieldson became Area Dean of Kings Norton for the second time in May 2016. Originally from Lincolnshire, he was ordained in Birmingham in 1986. Rob became Vicar of Cofton Hackett and Barnt Green in 1995 after serving 5 years as Chaplain in the Sultanate of Oman. He is married to Philippa who is a Speech and Language Therapist, and they have two grown up children. Rob’s hobbies include golf, the theatre, and travel. He is keen during his time as Area Dean to support fellow clergy, and to encourage outreach and young people’s ministry in this varied deanery.

Shirley

The Revd Duncan Hill-Brown is Vicar of St Philip's Dorridge with St James' Bentley Heath and has been Area Dean of Shirley since May 2012. Duncan, who was ordained in 1993, has served all his ministry in Birmingham Diocese starting at St John's Sparkhill, moving to Holy Trinity Sutton Coldfield, followed by seven years at St Margaret's Short Heath, ending up in 2006 in Dorridge and Bentley Heath. Duncan is married to Rachel who works as a Chaplain at Birmingham Children's Hospital, and they are both delighted and exhausted by their two young children Maddy and Zac. Duncan enjoys the challenges of Parish ministry and spending time with family and friends.

The Revd Adrian Leahy became Area Dean of Sutton Coldfield in July 2013, and has also been Vicar of All Saints, Four Oaks since 2007. Sutton Coldfield is a lovely place to live and work, with the various churches offering a great variety in worship, witness and service.
