Mentoring Matters is an easy-to-use resource with everything you need to start a church-based mentoring network. This ‘train-the-trainer’ session will be a CPAS led day for those who want to run Mentoring Matters in their church in order to develop a group of mentors who will go on to support those on courses such as Growing Leaders, youth leadership, and the Pastoral Care and Community Skills programmes. It is also for those who are interested in developing their skills as a mentor or who want to grow a culture of mentoring in their ministry.
Many in our churches are looking for help as they grapple with how to be a disciple and leader in such a fast moving, rapidly changing world. A mentoring relationship provides an intentional way of engaging with God's agenda. Be it formal or informal, short or long term, the mentor offers encouragement, perspective and challenge.
In CofE Birmingham, we want to release and harness the gifts of people in all parishes and one of the ways we’re seeking to do this is to develop a network of mentors from every benefice and all ethnic groups, in churches and across ministries.
The session will be led by James Lawrence of CPAS:
James Lawrence is the Leadership Principal at CPAS and overall leader of the Arrow Leadership Programme (UK). He is author of several books and courses, including Growing Leaders, Mentoring Matters, PCC Tonight and Lead On. He teaches and trains on leadership and mentoring in the UK. He is passionate about resourcing the local church to be well led and mission focused, and he loves ironing!
Gillian Sheail is Mentor Coordinator in the Mission Learning and Development team. She has worked in educational leadership, coaching, professional development and adult literacy teaching and has been involved in a local church for many years. Gillian’s desire is to see others develop and flourish in God’s plans for them and she is convinced that mentoring is an effective way of enabling this to happen.
This is a free event and refreshments and lunch will be provided.
