Parish or individual donation to the general fund
From the outset of the link, in 1966, The Church of England - Birmingham has sent an annual gift to support the mission and ministry of the church in Malawi. Currently Birmingham donates £50-60,000 each year to the Anglican Church in Malawi. The general fund is split equally between the four Dioceses and the ACM (Anglican Council of Malawi – a body that that coordinates and oversees the work of the four Dioceses). The money sent is primarily allocated towards supporting each Diocese in meeting the cost of stipends for clergy and salaries for staff at the diocesan offices.
In addition, parishes are contributing almost £50,000 each year to specific parishes, schools and hospitals in Malawi for projects or ongoing costs.
Through these two types of giving we in Birmingham are able to support our partners as they seek to grow the church and to bring relief and development to the people of one of the world’s poorest countries.
Our annual gift to Malawi is only made possible because of the generosity of parishes and individuals around the Diocese who support the link financially. If you attend a parish in Birmingham then please encourage your PCC and congregation to support the Malawi Partnership with an annual donation if they are not doing so already.
Donations may be made to the Diocese of Birmingham Malawi Fund by contacting Amanda Homer. Her email address is AmandaH@cofebirmingham.com. Her telephone number is 0121 426 0414.
Personal donations are usually made through your local parish, but if you would like to make a personal donation to the Malawi General Fund, and are a taxpayer, then please ask Amanda to send a Gift Aid form so that we can reclaim the tax.
