Bishop David in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list

Bishop David is to be awarded a KCMG (Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George) honour in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list. KCMGs are specifically awarded to diplomats and people serving the UK abroad.

The list published by the Cabinet Office on the 9th of June includes the following:

“The Rt Rev David URQUHART, Bishop of Birmingham and Prelate of the Order of St Michael and George. For services to international relations”

Bishop David, who is the Archbishop’s Envoy to China, will be appointed to the Order at a ceremony in October 2018. The Order's motto is Auspicium melioris ævi (Latin for "Token of a better age").

In total 1,057 people have received an award:

920 candidates have been selected at BEM, MBE and OBE level

Other people on the Honours list include actress Emma Thompson, novelist Kazuo Ishiguro and boxer Anthony Joshua.

71% of the recipients are people who have undertaken outstanding work in their communities either in a voluntary or paid capacity

519 women are recognised in the List, representing 49% of the total

Bishop David is one of only three receiving the KCMG this time round
