On Sunday 9th September, friends, family and congregations gathered at St. Luke’s Great Colmore Street to commission our recently appointed Mission Apprentices. The service was led by Bishop Anne.
It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the commitment of our 9 Mission Apprentices to work in parishes in some of Birmingham’s most economically deprived parishes. The Mission Apprentices will be working on a wide range of different projects including setting up sports ministries, youth services, after school clubs, ministry with young adults and dementia-friendly services.
Ricky Sandiford, one of the Mission Apprentices, said, “words cannot describe how excited I am to be involved in the Mission Apprentice scheme. This is an amazing opportunity for new church leaders to dip their toe into the calling of ministry, which I personally thought was beyond me.”
This will be the 3rdphase of the Mission Apprentice Scheme, which is funded by AllChurches Trust. Mission Apprentices receive a mentor, learning program, parish placement and opportunities to grow deeper in their faith and develop their leadership skills.
The Mission Apprentices and the parishes they will serve are:
Chloe Hewett – Holy Cross, Billsley
Fiona Allen - St John and St Michael, Langley
Jody-Ann Frazer – St John and St Peter, Ladywood
Lizzie Steel – Bishop Latimer, Winson Green
Lou Bayliss - St. David’s, Shenley Green
Mandy Widdas - St. Editha’s, Amington
Marie Ford – St. Gabriel’s, Weoley Castle
Ricky Sandford – St Clements, Castle Bromwich
Sian Mehlmann – St Luke’s, Great Colmore Street
Please pray for our Mission Apprentices as they seek to reach out to their communities and nurture new followers of Jesus.
