New Director of Learning for Discipleship and Mission

The Revd Canon Guy Donegan-Cross has been appointed as our new Director of Learning for Discipleship and Mission. Guy is currently Vicar of St Mark’s Church in Harrogate. He brings a wealth of experience in education, learning and formation for discipleship and missional leadership, and is passionate about seeing people equipped for witness and service in their daily lives.

Bishop Anne said: "I am delighted that Guy will be joining us in the Church of England Birmingham as together we seek to nurture more confident disciples and followers of Jesus Christ, and to develop the gifts of the whole people of God. I very much look forward to welcoming him".

Guy said: “It will be great to join a Diocese and a team which so explicitly makes discipleship the central focus. I love the heart you have to affirm following Christ in every area of life, and am really looking forward to learning with you and getting stuck in to what God is doing."

Guy will take up leadership of our current Mission Learning & Development Team and discipleship programmes, and will work in collaboration with Mark Pryce, Liz Dumain, and the teams they lead, to shape flexible, accessible and inspiring opportunities to deepen faith and develop confidence in responding to God's call to mission and ministry.

Prior to his ordination, Guy was a teacher in England and China. He has worked extensively in ecumenical mission work around poverty, refugees and the environment. Guy is passionate about mission, whole-life discipleship, and Jesus at the centre - as well as amateur dramatics, dog-walking and U2!

Guy will be joining us in August along with his wife, Ruth (pictured with Guy above), who is also ordained. They have four adult children.
