Spree Weekends for youth groups

Just 3 miles east of Bromsgrove you’ll find outdoor activity centre Blackwell Court. For one weekend in July 380 young people and their youth leaders descend on it for an event known as Spree.

Spree weekends are run by Urban Saints and their partners and take place all over the country, over different weekends during the summer term. This year for the first time Spree came to the Birmingham Diocese.

Emma Sargeant, Growing Younger Advisor, was part of the core team this year and together with the Worcester, Herford and Gloucester Dioceses joined Urban Saints and partners to create three venues for children and young people aged 8-16, to encounter Jesus for themselves.

Spree involves music, worship, speakers and games, prayer and conversations, grass sledging and swimming. Young people took on high ropes and zip wires. Emma says, “For me the best parts of the weekend were seeing young people laughing, smiling and learning together. They scaled the high ropes and discovered that they could do it with their team cheering them on and they learnt to pray for each other and encourage one another with stories of faith and God at work in their lives.”

In the evenings out came the campfire, films and a silence disco in an attempt to wear out the young people enough to sleep soundly in their tents each night in readiness for action the following day.

If you have a youth group or a small gang of young people in your church and would like to bring them along to somewhere where the activities and spiritual program are all planned out for you and you just pitch up your tents and hang out for the weekend, then put July 10-12th 2020 in your diaries. Come along and see God deepen your relationships with Him and with one another.
