Vicar - St John’s Sparkhill and Christ Church Sparkbrook

Vicar - St John’s Sparkhill and Christ Church Sparkbrook

The Bishop of Birmingham seeks a Vicar for the parishes of St John’s Sparkhill and Christ Church Sparkbrook.

These adjoining parishes along the A34 south of the city centre offer significant opportunity for missional presence in diverse Birmingham. Both parishes have ‘Outstanding’ church primary schools, a partnership central to mission and ministry. Christ Church offers a new purpose built centre where a missional community develops outreach and mission. St John’s historic building on the main A34 is ripe for development and home to different forms of outreach. A significant regional charity Narthex, offering a network of foodbanks and a variety of social projects is connected to the parish, based at St John’s, and the vicar will be able to define a supportive role in this.

The new Vicar will particularly enjoy

  • Developing appropriate contextual forms of Christian presence, mission and evangelism
  • Collaborating with others to help develop church, project and charity together
  • Ministering in a broadly open evangelical spirituality
  • Living and ministering in an urban, other-faith majority context
  • Offering pastoral care and discipleship support to established members of St John’s
  • Growing missional partnership with two outstanding church schools
