Sunday 1 November

All Saints’ Day

We give thanks, on the Feast of All Saints for all those who, having departed this life, have inspired our faith, touched our lives as children of God, and filled our hearts with their presence and love. As we honour their memory, may God console those who mourn, and wipe away every tear from their eyes.

Monday 2 November

Commemoration of the Faithful Departed (All Souls’ Day)

Chris Booth, has recorded a piece of music to inspire prayer for All Souls Day.

Today on All Souls Day we remember the souls of the faithful departed. We pray for all those who mourn their loss however long it has been. Comfort and strengthen all those who struggle with grief this day. 
We pray for all those who will die today, those who will die alone and those who will die not knowing the peace of Christ. Grant them a share in your eternal kingdom.May the Souls of the Faithful departed through the mercy of God, rest in peace and rise in glory. Amen.

Tuesday 3 November

The Revd Patrick Gerard, Bishop’s Adviser for the Environment, invites us to pray for the CofE Birmingham as it works towards its goal of net zero emissions by 2030. We pray for Parishes and Schools as they focus on the target. We pray for improvements to parsonage houses to reduce emissions.

Wednesday 4 November

Jeremy Allcock, St Martin in the Bull Ring, invites us to pray:
Father God
We are saddened by the violent acts that have occurred in our city centre over recent weeks.
May your Holy Spirit bring change and hope to our streets, transforming -
anger into calm;
hatred into friendship;
and aggression into acts of kindness;
so that the cordons of police tape will disappear,
while the bonds of harmony and peace grow.
In the name of Jesus our healer. Amen

Thursday 5 November

Movember is Men’s Health Awareness month, considering the big health issues faced by men: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention. 
Lord, Our fathers, partners, brothers and friends face a health crisis that isn’t being talked about. We can’t afford to stay silent. Help us to stop men dying too young. Amen

The Saints and Martyrs of England

Sarah Smith, Director of Education, invites us to pray for the new Secondary school in Yardley Wood. Lord, we give thanks and pray for the new headteacher Mark Bowman Dalton, and the deputy head teacher Elizabeth Ford, as they develop an exciting curriculum, appoint staff and most importantly welcome the Year 6 children as they prepare to come in September. Amen

Patrick Gerard, St Mary’s Lapworth invites us to pray for all Remembrance Sunday services taking place across the CofE Birmingham today. We remember too the online and alternative provisions which are necessary this year. We pray for all those who have died or suffered because of war and we remember especially people affected by war at this time. We pray that Christ’s peace may be known.

Fr Barrie Scott, St John the Evangelist Perry Barr, invites us to pray for all those involved with and affected by the preparations for Commonwealth Games 2022. Lord may you guide, the local community, residents, businesses and commuters, and the workers, builders and planners into patience, fairness and equity in all their doings. Amen

Sunday 15 November

We give thanks by God’s grace, the St Martin’s Centre for Health and Healing, has continued to function throughout the lockdown, remotely providing about 300 counselling and therapy sessions each week. Thank you Lord for additional resources enabling important new support services to be provided to people across our city who are experiencing profound emotional difficulties.

16th-20th November is Anti-Bullying Week. Let us pray: Lord, we understand bullying has a long lasting effect on those who experience and witness it. Help us together to end bullying, from parents and carers, to teachers and politicians, to children and young people. Inspire us to play our part in coming together to make a difference. Amen
