Pathways - Lifelong discipleship; flexible learning; flourishing teams.

29th October 2020

Pathways is here! A funded initiative to support leadership development for lay and clergy in our six deaneries through learning, coaching and mentoring.

From 1 November, Pathways is opening to new learners and will be offering an increasing number of modules and other learning opportunities for all in CofE Birmingham.

Through Pathways we’re seeking to provide opportunity for every Christian and church community in the Church of England Birmingham family to grow in their capacity to live out the Good News of Jesus, equip them for serving Him and be servant leaders in every sphere of life.

Pathways builds on Flex, a learning pathway for all interested in mission and ministry with young people, children and families and young adults. In addition to Flex, there are now learning pathways for Reader Ministry, Discipleship, Servant Leadership, Unconscious Bias and from 2021, paths to Evangelism, Local Ministry, Pastoral Care and many more licensed and commissioned ministries.

Our hope is that from early 2021 those who engage with learning through Pathways will have the opportunity to meet with a mentor ‘who has been there before’ and can support their learning journey. If you’re unsure which pathway to take, a mentor can help you think this through.

We are also making sure that leaders can be assigned a coach with appropriate skills to support them in ministry and help them transition to leading within the new oversight model. And we’re establishing and developing a wider and deeper coaching and mentoring culture across the diocese.
