On Sunday 7 June people of all ages gathered at St James church in Shirley, to explore the wildlife and biodiversity of their churchyard.
Children enjoyed discovering the plants and creatures living around the church grounds, learnt about caring for creation, and even created bee drinking stations to help support local pollinators.
Through crafts and activities, the event inspired young people to care for the environment.
The event was organised through Churches Count on Nature, part of Love Your Burial Ground Week, a joint initiative promoted by Caring for God’s Acre, the Church of England, the Church in Wales and A Rocha UK.
Throughout the week, churches invite their local communities to join in identifying and logging the biodiversity in their churches.
Several churches across Birmingham and the region will be joining in celebrating the nature and wildlife in their churchyards and cemeteries, through holding special activities and events this week.
The initiative is one of many ways churches across Birmingham and the region are appreciating and protecting local habitats, and living out God’s call to care for creation.
