A statement from The Bishop of Birmingham: A message of peace

3rd April 2018

As Christians we have just celebrated Easter, the most Holy festival in the Christian year when we remember the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Through his resurrection the church has a hope of new life and the chance for people to be in a right relationship with God and with one another. My hope and prayer is that through the activity and witness of the church everyone in the Birmingham area will have a chance to encounter the living God and discover anew how we can live in good and peaceful relationships with one another.

Sadly there are those who would seek to spread hatred and division between people of different ethnicities, cultures of faiths, some even resorting to threats of violence. The message of Easter is that evil does not and will not triumph. The hope of reconciliation offered through the cross is open to all.

Many those of us who call ourselves disciples of Jesus live this out through acts of peace and kindness. May all people living in our midst know something of the peace of God in the coming days, weeks and months.
