On 12 December 2024, CofE Birmingham welcomed The Reverend Canon Esther Prior as the 11th Suffragan Bishop of Aston.

On the occasion of the announcement, The Rt. Revd Dr Michael Volland, Bishop of Birmingham said, ‘I am delighted to announce Esther’s appointment, and I thank God for sending her to be among us as the next Bishop of Aston. Esther is a person of lively faith in Jesus Christ and comes to us with a breadth and depth of ministerial experience. Her gifts will be a great blessing to the people of Birmingham and the wider region."

Bishops’ Prayer Network: A dispersed Community of Intercession

We believe God is calling us into deeper prayer for our city, our churches, and our communities. The Bishops’ Prayer Network will be made up of at least 24 (many more welcome) committed intercessors, people whose longing to see lives changed, justice restored, and the name of Jesus lifted high across Birmingham and beyond is expressed through prayer.

Church of England Birmingham Celebrates Silver Eco Diocese Award

St Martin’s in the Bullring hosted a joyful and inspiring service on Sunday evening to celebrate a significant environmental milestone for the Diocese. Members of congregations from across Birmingham, along with members of the public, gathered in the heart of the city to mark Church of England Birmingham being awarded the Silver Eco Diocese Award by A Rocha UK.

We are delighted to inform you that over £17.8m of funding has been awarded for the next phase of our strategy that will support us in ‘Growing churches at the heart of each community’. This is good news for Birmingham and the region.
