Thursday 1

The Naming and Circumcision of Jesus

Forever faithful God, thank you for your endless love and new mercies each day.
Please fill us with your Spirit as we enter this new year.
Help us to walk joyfully and faithfully in the year ahead, obedient to your will.
Through Jesus, our Lord and Saviour, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit.
Amen


Friday 2

Basil the Great and Gregory of Nazianzus, Bishops, Teachers of the Faith, 379 and 389

Dear Lord, we weep for the lives lost in conflict and pray for all those who mourn their loved ones.
We bring to you our deep sorrows and fears for the future. We cry out to You for peace and justice.
We pray for an end to war and ask that those in power would seek peace, not violence.
Amen


Saturday 3

Heavenly Father, we thank You for our CofE Birmingham leaders and parishioners who create a welcoming and joyful church.
Bless our community as we gather in Your name, and fill us with love, unity and gratitude.
May Your Spirit inspire our worship and deepen our faith as we share Your good news.
Amen


Sunday 4

Revd Tracy Browne, St John the Evangelist & St Peter, Ladywood, writes,

Join us in thanking God for his generosity. We at St Johns and St Peters prayed for the funding for the Big Breakfast in Ladywood to come through, after not receiving it the first time of applying. Our prayers were answered when we received more than we expected. We can now support the Big Breakfast for the whole year of 2026.

Thank you Gracious Lord.

Dear God, we thank You for the gifts and talents You have given us.
Please help us seize every opportunity to improve and develop these gifts, and guide us to use them wisely.
We are grateful for Your Word, which refreshes us daily like water to a seed, nourishing our spirits.
Thank You for Your constant love and support.

Tuesday 6

The Epiphany

Oh God among us, may we be visited by angels, may we follow stars, may we bring the gifts we have to offer.
May we embrace the journey ahead and travel in love.
May Christ bless our homes and find a home in our hearts throughout the year.

Wednesday 7

God of all nations, help our CofE Birmingham churches to shine a light in our communities.
Bless food banks, parent and toddler groups and other community services.
We pray you use these programmes to show Your love and bring people to church.
Multiply the good we do.
Amen


Thursday 8

Loving Creator, we give thanks and pray for the continuous support and effort from all of our CofE Birmingham parishes, and individuals, to work to reduce carbon emissions and prioritise creation care. Open our hearts to hear earth’s suffering and the cries of our neighbours living in the midst of extreme poverty and hunger. Give us a deeper awareness that we are part of all that You have made.

Lord, we continue to pray for our fellow trustees and members who live overseas and are carried in our hearts and minds.
We pray that the New Year will find us all ready to face the challenges and joy of life while we walk with a smile and focus on Jesus.

Heavenly Father, we lift up CofE Birmingham discipleship groups to You.
Thank You for the opportunity to help us grow in faith and become the believers Jesus commissioned us to be.
Bless each member, guide our studies, and strengthen our journey together.

Heavenly Father, bless those You are calling to join us in CofE Birmingham, especially in our vacant parishes.
We pray daily for Your wisdom, discernment and blessing as we seek Your divine plan.

Oh Lord, we pray for Handsworth & Central Children and Families Mission Enablers (CFME),
who support their parishes to engage with new children and families and provide a pathway for them into worshipping.
We ask for wisdom and guidance as they navigate through new working relationships and the creation of new worshipping activities.

Thursday 15

Dear God, come and fill our CofE Birmingham churches with Your presence.
Let people encounter You when they come to our services.
We pray everyone who comes here would know Your love.

CofE Birmingham Environment team invite us to pray,

Lord, we thank you that faith communities control 8% of the world's habitable land; may they sustain its beauty and restore its use.
Help our own churches to use this month for clearing, planning and planting so that the beauty of their land and the creatures living in it may be enriched and glorify you.

Loving God, We come to you with heavy hearts for all who suffer in our world,
for those trapped in modern slavery, for those working unseen and forced to produce what we use every day.
Your Son brought good news to the poor and freedom to the oppressed.
Help us to be voices against injustice and messengers of your love.
Open our eyes to see and help those suffering out of sight.

Lord of Creation, we thank you for the Gold Eco Church Award recently given to St Christopher's Springfield,
and for their hard work and dedication.
Watch over their online meeting tonight, at which they will share their experience with others.
Let it be an inspiration to all.

Heavenly Father, have mercy on our city and region.
Fill our hearts with great love for the people here,
and guide us to serve and care for them with compassion.

Dear Lord, bring new people to our church every week.
Draw them with Your love.
Help them to feel welcome when they come so they want to come back again and again.
Let our church grow bigger as more people join us.

Make their hands strong for the work they do, yet keep their touch light as they embrace those in need.
