The Eco Church scheme is run by A Rocha UK and is an excellent way of involving your church community in caring for God's creation working towards the Church of England's target to become carbon neutral by 2030. Visit the website to find out more about the A Rocha UK award scheme.
There are five sections: Worship and Teaching, Buildings, Land, Lifestyle, Community and Global Engagement. Bronze, Silver and Gold awards are given depending on the number of points gained in each section. By June 2023, 97 churches in the CofE Birmingham were registered with Eco Church, of which 36 churches had achieved a Bronze Award, 16 Silver and one Gold.
In 2019, the CofE Birmingham became the third diocese across the country to be awarded a Bronze Eco Diocese Award and it is in the process of applying for the Silver award.
