Friday 2 February

Today the CofE celebrates Candlemas and The Presentation of Christ in the Temple,

Almighty and ever-living God,
clothed in majesty,
whose beloved Son was this day presented in the Temple,
in substance of our flesh:
grant that we may be presented to you with pure and clean hearts,
by your Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

Creative God, we thank you for the amazing diversity of your creation.
So much life, expressed in different forms, living in a huge variety of ways.
We thank you that this diversity is expressed in human life,
people all made in your image, yet living, believing and hoping in different ways.
In the richness of your creative diversity, we give thanks for faith communities
who gather together to express shared beliefs that may be both similar and different to our own.

Loving Lord, we pray for Children and Family Missioner Enablers (CFME’s) projects currently across our five Deaneries and that they will recruit and develop volunteers for the exciting work that they are doing. We pray for your calling on people to step forward to help with these projects.

we pray for the first stages happening early 2024, as we recruit the regional team.

Lord God, whose Son, Jesus Christ,
understood people’s fear and pain before they spoke of them,
we pray for those in hospital;
surround the frightened with your tenderness;
give strength to those in pain;
hold the weak in your arms of love,
and give hope and patience
to those who are recovering;
we ask this through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Prayer today, we join the CofE Lent campaign #Watchandpray, inspired by Matthew 26:36-46, 

“Stay here with me... Watch and pray.” 

This Lent we are encouraged to wait expectantly for God to meet us and sustain us through the storms and trials we all face .

Almighty God,
whose Son Jesus Christ fasted forty days in the wilderness,

give us grace to discipline ourselves in obedience to your Spirit;
and, as you know our weakness, so may we know your power to save;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

Todays prayer is inspired by Genesis 1:16-18,

“God made the two great lights -
the greater light to rule the day
and the lesser light to rule the night - and the stars.
God set them in the dome of the sky to give light upon the earth,
to rule over the day and over the night,
and to separate the light from the darkness.
And God saw that it was good.”

Today is World Day of Social Justice,

Jesus, you invite us all into the fullness of life.
May we support one another to flourish in body, mind and spirit.
May we be one as members of Your Body.
You invite us to share in your ministry of love and true compassion.
May we be empowered by your Spirit to reach out to all people in need.
May we build communities of welcome and inclusion.

This year “World Thinking Day will embrace the theme of Our World, Our Thriving Future”.

Lord, on Girl Guide Thinking Day
we praise you for the beauty of creation, its richness and variety.
Yet, through greed and ignorance, we scar your world with plastic waste and throw so much away.
May we tread gently on our common home, that we may care more deeply for your Earth.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Almighty God, we pray for the Installation service for the 10th Bishop of Birmingham.
Inspire and guide all those who are working to create and offer this act of worship.
Bless the singers, the liturgists, the ministers, the participants and congregation, with a sense of your living presence.
May your Holy Spirit dwell amongst us,
as with sure knowledge of your joy, grace and love,
we welcome Bishop Michael and the beginning of his new ministry.
