Community Projects

As well as bespoke support with churches we are involved in coordinating and overseeing a number of initiatives in Birmingham; as well as facilitating the Know Your Church Know Your Neighbourhood process with churches.

Near Neighbours works to create integration and social cohesion by addressing hate and prejudice in local communities and by encouraging different communities to work together to address unmet needs in their community. Find out more about Near Neighbours Birmingham and their small grants.

Places of Welcome works with local community groups to make sure that everyone in their area has a safe place to go for a friendly face, a cup of tea and a conversation.

Just Finance Foundation addresses issues of financial exclusion and the distress caused by unmanageable personal debt, by developing community-based responses and financial services.

We also use the practical knowledge gained at a local level to influence policy and better inform decision makers in government and more widely.

Birmingham Churches Winter Night Shelter is a community of churches and organisations that work together to provide overnight accommodation, an evening meal, breakfast and friendship to people sleeping rough in Birmingham during the winter.

The Body Mind Spirit Partnership is a group of church linked organisations who are committed to working with older people in communities to improve their quality of life and their health and well-being through participation.

Birmingham Poverty Truth is based on the idea that to really address poverty in Birmingham the real voices of people who have experience of living at the sharp end of poverty, in all sorts of different ways, need to not only be heard but involved in decisions about poverty.

Safe Spaces for Young People is a developing network of churches and Christian-led projects that provide safe spaces for young people to gather at the same time every week. The concept came from local youth workers wanting to resource and increase youth provision across the city.

Know Your Church, Know Your Neighbourhood

Know Your Church, Know Your Neighbourhood (KYCKYN) is a facilitated process, adapted by Transforming Lives Together, designed to help churches in the Diocese of Birmingham to think about themselves in relation to the wider community they seek to serve, and make prayerful and informed decisions about their mission in their local community.
