Monday 1

Charles de Foucauld, Hermit in the Sahara, 1916

God of Love,
Your son, Jesus, is your greatest gift to us.
He is a sign of your love.
Help us walk in that love during the weeks of Advent,
As we wait and prepare for his coming.
We pray in the name of Jesus, our Savior.
Amen


Tuesday 2

Gracious God, as Christmas lights are turned on and shops become busy,
we pray for those working in retail and the hospitality industry during this busy time of the year.
Uphold and encourage those working long hours and give us all grace to treat one another
with the love and care you show in Jesus.
Amen


Wednesday 3

Francis Xavier, Missionary, Apostle of the Indies, 1552

Holy God, we pray you would give us great love for our city and region,
and we seek Your divine protection over our neighborhoods.
Surround our homes with Your angels, instill peace in our hearts,
and foster unity among our neighbours.
Amen


Thursday 4

John of Damascus, Monk, Teacher of the Faith, c.749

The CofE Birmingham Environment team invite us to pray,

Loving God, your Son was laid in a manger and visited by shepherds from the fields,
help us also to celebrate his birth without extravagance, pollution or waste,
in simplicity, gratitude and joy.
Amen


Friday 5

Heavenly Father,
We thank you for opening the hearts of many
to those who are fleeing for their lives.
Help us now to open our arms in welcome,
and reach out our hands in support.
That the desperate may find new hope,
and lives torn apart be restored.
We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ your Son, our Lord,
who fled persecution at His birth
and at His last triumphed over death.

Heavenly Father, we give thanks for our CofE Birmingham leaders and parishioners who make their church a welcoming sanctuary filled with joy and gratitude. Bless our community as we gather in Your name, fostering love, unity, and thanksgiving. May Your Spirit continue to inspire our worship and deepen our faith as we spread your Good News.

Ambrose, Bishop of Milan, Teacher of the Faith, 397

Lucille Monica Arlidge invites us to pray,

Lord, you call each of us to serve you as your servants in the world.
We thank you that you have helped us to see the needs of others
and then to serve them with compassion and love.
For this vocation and calling we thank you for the sake of Jesus.

The Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Lord, lead us to every place you want us to go.
Send us out into our community and beyond to disciple others
and show them how to grow near to you.

Tuesday 9

Prayer today is inspired by Deuteronomy 31:8

The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you;
he will never leave you nor forsake you.
Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.

 

Lord God, I thank you for your presence.
As I start my day, I know I don’t do it alone but that you go before me.
Please help me continually be aware of your presence with me throughout the day,
may it give me the courage to do all that you ask of me.

Wednesday 10

Rowena Nicholls, Diocesan President, Mothers' Union, invites us to pray,

As we come to the end of the 16 days of Activism we pray for the work of the Mothers’ Union’s Rise Up Campaign. Let us pray for all those affected by domestic or gender based violence, may you give them courage, strength and loving support to enable them to find shelter, peace and safety. We also pray for all those who work to support those affected and those who have authority to end all abuse.

Heavenly Father, We pray that we all may cultivate hearts of gratitude,
recognising the countless blessings that grace our lives.
Help us see the beauty in the simple things and be thankful for Your abundant grace.

Friday 12

Lord God, So many places are torn by violence, unrest, and fear.
We ask for Your peace to reign where chaos seems to rule.
Pour out Your Spirit in troubled regions, calming hearts and silencing weapons.
Protect the innocent, comfort the grieving, and bring divine resolution to every conflict.
Let the nations see Your light and be drawn to Your truth.
Amen

Spirit of the Lord, we humbly lift up all CofE Birmingham church workers and volunteers,
thanking You for their dedication, service, and willingness to serve others in Your name.
May their work be a reflection of Your love,
and may they feel Your presence and encouragement each day.
Amen

John of the Cross, Poet, Teacher of the Faith, 1591

John Nightingale invites us to pray,

Lord we thank you that many young people leave school passionate about nature and the care of our planet.
Let us ask that they be helped by church and community, to find opportunities, paid and voluntary,
to develop an environmental vocation.

Prayer today is inspired by Psalm 32:8

I will instruct you and teach you the way you should go;
I will counsel you with my eye upon you.

Dear God, You are so generous and have abundantly blessed my life with Your presence.
Thank You for opening my eyes to the blessings You have given me and my family.
Show me how I can be a blessing to others.
Amen


Tuesday 16

Holy God, we thank you for the joy and excitement of this Christmas season in our CofE Birmingham schools.
Help us to stay focused on the true meaning of Christ's birth and to have peace in our hearts.
We pray for blessings on our families, and for all those who may find this time difficult.
Amen


Wednesday 17

O Sapientia

Prayer today is inspired by Isaiah 11:2-3

The spirit of the Lord shall rest on him,
the spirit of wisdom and understanding,
the spirit of counsel and might,
the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.
His delight shall be in the fear of the Lord.
He shall not judge by what his eyes see,
or decide by what his ears hear.


Thursday 18

Loving Jesus,
you were born in a stable but worshipped by the angels.
Be with all who are lonely, and with all who feel distant from celebrations.
Be for us a living hope that lightens their hearts.
Amen.


Friday 19

Father, we pray for the nations of the earth to turn their hearts to You.
Let every people group, language, and tribe come to know the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
Let hearts be softened, ears be opened, and eyes see Your glory.
Amen.


Saturday 20

Heavenly Father, strengthen our CofE Birmingham church community,
renew our faith, and guide us in love and unity.
May your Spirit inspire us to serve and grow together in your grace.
Amen


Sunday 21

Lord Jesus Christ,
your birth at Bethlehem
draws us to kneel in wonder at heaven touching earth:
accept our heartfelt praise
as we worship you,
our Saviour and our eternal God.

Monday 22

Gracious God, as CofE Birmingham home groups meet this week, please give your guidance and wisdom.
You are the source of all knowledge and understanding.
Help our home groups to listen attentively to one another, with open hearts and minds.
Please reveal more of Yourself as they grow closer to You and one another.
Amen


Tuesday 23

Heavenly Father, May all who are working today have a day filled with
productivity, creativity, and a deep sense of fulfillment.
As we interact with others, help us to be an agent of your love and grace.
May our words be seasoned with kindness, and our actions mirror the values of our faith.
Amen

Christmas Eve

Lord Jesus, we welcome You into our hearts this Christmas Eve.
Thank You for Your love and sacrifice.
May our lives reflect Your light.
Amen


Thursday 25

Christmas Day

Christ, for whom there was no room in the inn,
give courage to all who are homeless;
Christ, who fled into Egypt,
give comfort to all refugees;
Christ, who fasted in the desert,
give relief to all who are starving;
Christ, who hung in agony on the cross,
give strength to all who suffer;
Lord of the Church
hear our prayer,
and make us one in heart and mind
to serve you with joy for ever.

Stephen, Deacon, First Martyr

Gracious God, on this Boxing Day, I pause to reflect on the past year.
As I consider the highs and lows, I seek Your guidance for the journey ahead.
Grant me wisdom to learn from the past, discernment for the present, and hope for the future.
Amen


Saturday 27

John, Apostle and Evangelist

Heavenly Father, we give thanks for our CofE Birmingham church leaders.
Lord, grant them wisdom, guiding them in good governance, wise decisions, and seeking Your will and word in all they do.
Grant them rest, joy, and encouragement, and refresh their souls so they can minister with renewed energy.
Amen


Sunday 28

The Holy Innocents

Lucille Monica Arlidge invites us to pray,

Dear Lord, as we pray during this closing season of the Church year, we give thanks for all the saints.
Especially, we give thanks for those who have served in the defence and protection of others.
May those who died find their rest in you.
May those who are hurt find healing and hope in you.
This we ask in the name of Jesus, our saviour and our King.

Eternal Father, We lift up our neighbours, asking for the gift of unwavering faith.
Strengthen their belief in your promises, Lord, and help them trust in your divine plan.
May their faith be an anchor in life’s storms, and may they find hope and assurance in your unwavering love.

Heavenly Father, we ask you to comfort and surround care home and nursing home residents with Your love.
Give caregivers strength, patience and kindness.
Guide decision-makers to honor the dignity of all.
May all feel Your presence and let it bring hope, peace, and compassion to every soul.
Amen


Wednesday 31

Dear Heavenly Father, I come before You with a heart full of gratitude.
Thank You for the blessings of the past year.
Help me reflect on the goodness in my life and appreciate the moments of joy and growth.
May I carry a spirit of thankfulness into the coming year, recognising Your hand in all things.
