In this month of October, we celebrate Black History,

Heavenly Father, we honour and thank You for the rich heritage and invaluable contributions of Black communities worldwide. Bless their journey, uplift their voices, and inspire unity and justice. May we always celebrate diversity, recognise dignity, and walk together in love and equality.

Thursday 2

Dear Lord, I ask for a generous spirit to dwell within me.
Help me to give freely and joyfully, reflecting Your love and kindness in all my actions.
May my heart be open to those in need, and may my hands be willing to serve without hesitation.
Amen


Friday 3

God of Peace, we pray that world leaders are granted the wisdom
to see beyond the boundaries of race, religion, and nation to that
common humanity that makes us all your children, and brothers and sisters to one another.

Saturday 4

Francis of Assisi, Friar, Deacon, Founder of the Friars Minor, 1226

At the end of Creationtide let us remember St Francis.

Dear Lord, the parish of St Francis Bournville is celebrating its centenary with the production of a play about St Francis. The author and actors are all local. May the cast and audience be inspired.

Prayer today is inspired by Psalm 119:105

'Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.'

Lord Jesus, help me to walk with You in every decision I make today.
Let my life be aligned with Your heart.

Monday 6

Lord, in this new season we pray for the harvest of souls gathered into your kingdom.
We pray for careful teaching and nurturing of new Christians alongside vigorous and
learned development of established Christians.
Amen


Tuesday 7

Lord of Life and Love, surround all preparing for, and living in marriage with Your love and guidance.
Bring comfort to those facing challenges, joy to those celebrating, and remind us all that
Your steadfast love sustains us every moment.
Amen


Wednesday 8

Janice Wones invites us to pray,

Lord God, we worship you in and through the smaller details.
We thank you for those who change the liturgical items of altar frontals and curtains to indicate the seasons.
They subtly alter the mood of the liturgy. We thank you for those who launder and iron the linens used at the Eucharist.
Their care may not be noticed by many, but is vital for the proper performance of the service.

John Nightingale invites us to pray,

Heavenly Father, we thank You for inspiring initiatives like CofE's 'The Great Switch for Creation' and Parish Buying's 'Parish Energy Scheme', which guide us toward caring for Your creation through ethical and renewable energy sources.
We pray that our CofEB parishes may be attentive to these opportunities, opening our hearts and minds to reduce our carbon footprint and demonstrate our stewardship of the earth.

Lord Jesus Christ, we pray for those suffering through forced labour, sexual exploitation,
domestic servitude, forced begging, county lines drug trading and forced marriage.
Bless all who work to fight this crime and bring freedom to those being exploited.

O Lord, we thank You for the faithful service of our CofEB church wardens, who steward Your house with wisdom and devotion.
Strengthen them in their duties, fill them with patience and understanding, and guide them in fostering unity within the church.

Lord, we thank you for the blessings of past,
the wisdom found in the present and
the wonders you have for the future.

Monday 13

Our Father, In moments of uncertainty, we seek Your divine wisdom.
Grant us the clarity to discern Your will and the courage to follow it.
May we find peace in Your presence and strength in our faith.
Amen


Tuesday 14

Most Merciful Jesus, we are extremely grateful for our NHS hospital workers.
They tirelessly offer their hands and hearts in service, restoring both physical healing
and mental well-being to those grappling with sickness.
Grant them joy and compassion amidst the hardships they encounter daily.
Bestow upon them good health, peace within their soul, and strength to carry on
this noble task You have set before them.

Our Father, we lift Birmingham and its surrounding areas unto You, seeking Your guidance and grace.
May Your love permeate every street and heart, bringing unity and peace.
Bless its leaders with wisdom and its residents with hope.
Let Your light shine brightly upon us.

Inspire us to embrace unity, fostering oneness in the beautiful tapestry of mankind.

Friday 17

Ignatius, Bishop of Antioch, Martyr, c.107

God of love and compassion, may we always recognise your spirit:
in refugee families, seeking safety from violence;
in migrant workers, bringing food to our tables;
in asylum-seekers, seeking justice for their families;
in unaccompanied children, traveling in a dangerous world.
Give us hearts of compassion whenever our brothers and sisters turn to us.

Luke the Evangelist

Lord of Creation, our hearts are full of gratitude for those
who have answered the call to serve in children’s and youth ministry in CofEB.
We thank You for their willingness to invest their time, energy, and love
into the lives of the children You have entrusted to their care.
Amen

Discipline of prayer and exploring new ways to pray can strengthen our relationship with God. You may choose to write prayers from the scriptures or journal what you're hearing from God through the verses. Or you may decide to pray through doodles or colour a mandala. 

Lord, teach us to pray, that we may walk daily in step with Your Spirit.

Monday 20

Lucille Monica Arlidge invites us to pray,

Lord we give you thanks for holding us in the palm of your hand during all that life brings:
the things that are difficult;
the things that cause pain;
the things we would run away from.
Thank you for holding us when we feel we can no longer endure.
Amen


Tuesday 21

Lord of Creation, we pray for our farming community,
for all who, as stewards of your creation, work so hard to
produce our food and care for our precious environment.
We give thanks for all involved in the safe production and passage of food,
and pray that all receive a fair reward for their labour.
Amen


Wednesday 22

Holy Father, Guide me in my journey to follow Jesus
with a heart full of love and devotion.
Grant me the strength to embrace His teachings and
the courage to walk in His footsteps.
May my life reflect His light, leading others to Your grace.

Thursday 23

Dear Lord, Help us to see the beauty and worth within ourselves, as You see us.
Give us the wisdom to recognise our unique gifts and the strength to embrace our true value.
May we shine brightly in the world.
Amen


Friday 24

For more than 50 years, CofEB has been partnered with the Anglican Church in Malawi.

Heavenly Father, we pray for Malawi and its church—grant wisdom, unity, and strength.
Bless their leaders, heal divisions, and inspire faith and hope among all people.
May Your love and peace reign in their nation and hearts.

God our Father, we thank you for our church leaders and we pray for CofEB parishes which are in interregnum.
Guard and grow each parish as they serve you in this period without a Vicar, so that together they may discover
your way for the future and see your kingdom grow.

Daylight Saving Time

Loving God, As the seasons shift and transform, I am reminded of the need to adapt to life’s ever-changing circumstances.
Thank you for the lessons each season brings, for they teach me to embrace change as a natural part of life.
Help me trust in your divine plan, knowing that every season has its purpose and beauty.

Loving God, guide us as we reach new hearts through planting and revitalising CofEB churches.
Bless our efforts to spread your love, bring renewal, and grow your kingdom.
