God is calling women and men to serve him in every generation. We are committed to helping you explore where and how He may be calling you today.
All Christians are called to be disciples of Jesus Christ. This means following Jesus and serving Him in all that we are and all that we do, wherever we find ourselves.
We are all called to serve God in our everyday lives – whether at home, at work or in our communities.
Many of us are also called to ministry in our churches. This could include children’s and youth ministry, music ministry, serving as a Church Warden or providing pastoral care.
Some people are called for authorised ministry, such as ordination as Deacon or Priest, a Reader, or a member of a religious community.

Helping you explore your calling
Whether you are considering ordained ministry, licensed lay ministry, church planting, chaplaincy, pioneering, youth and children's ministry, or other forms of Christian service, we would love to help you discern your next steps.
You don’t need to have everything worked out before getting in touch. Many people begin simply with a sense that God may be inviting them into something new.
Our role is to walk alongside you, listen carefully, pray with you and help you explore God's call.
Exploring your calling in community
Vocation is best discerned in community. If you are exploring a call to ministry, we encourage you to be actively involved in a local church and to be in conversation with your vicar, priest, or church leadership team.
The local church is often the first place where gifts, character and calling are recognised, encouraged and tested. The wisdom and encouragement of others can play an important role in helping us understand where God may be calling us to serve.
For this reason, we usually expect enquirers to be actively connected to a worshipping community and to have begun conversations with their church leadership before starting a formal discernment process.
Sign-up for our vocations events
Our 'Called to Serve' events are designed for anyone who is asking:
- Could God be calling me to serve in a new way?
- What ministry opportunities exist within the Church of England Birmingham?
- What does discernment involve?
- How can I explore a vocation prayerfully and realistically?
The event offers space to worship, learn, hear stories from those serving in ministry, ask questions, and discover more about the pathways available within the Church of England Birmingham.
The next event is Saturday 14 November, 9am - 12.30pm.
